The Queen Theater

The Light Up the Queen Foundation and the Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education (DiAE) will jointly present Terrance Simien on Wednesday, November 7th at The Queen Theater. Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience are two-time Grammy Award winners.

DiAE has designed an educational experience with Lewis Dual Language Elementary School in Wilmington to prepare students for the performance they will experience earlier on in the day (a private event). Prior to that performance, students will participate in an immersive workshop series facilitated by DiAE teaching artist Jea Street who will lead students through an exploration of Zydeco music using vocal and rhythmic strategies.

The DiAE school arts-integrated residency and Light Up The Queen Foundation-sponsored performance at The Queen will introduce students, teachers, and the community to Zydeco and Creole Culture centered on the history and evolution of this distinctive American roots music genre.

This unique experience is aligned with the DiAE mission to enhance the quality of education by integrating multicultural arts experiences into the daily curriculum of Delaware schools and with Light Up The Queen Foundation’s mission to ensure the Queen remains a catalyst for building community through high-quality programs in arts and music education.
